Dr K Seng Ooi – Senior Principal

BA, MBChB, BAO(IRE)

Dr Ooi graduated from Medicine in 1975 from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He has been practising General Medicine for over 40 years. His special interests include Men’s Health, Paediatric Medicine, Travel Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Ante-natal Care.

Dr Ooi is a Senior Clinical Lecturer for the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine and has an active role in teaching undergraduate Medical Students & Medical Registrars under the GP Synergy training program.

Dr Atul Rakheja – Director

[Illawarra Men’s Health Clinic]

 

MBBS, FRACGP

Dr Rakheja graduated in Medicine in 1997 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Rakheja trained through GPSynergy and has over 20 years experience working in general practice. He enjoys all areas of general practice, especially the opportunity to care for patients over the long term. His specific interests include Diabetes and Weight Management, Family Health, Preventative Medicine, Dermatology and Minor Procedures.

Dr Rakheja also heads the Illawarra Men’s Health Clinic, The Illawarra Men’s Health Clinic is dedicated to improving men’s health from a holistic perspective. He aims to assist men to achieve a better understanding of their risk factors and therefore improve their overall health.

Outside of work you can find him on the badminton court, traveling and cooking for his family and close friends.

Dr Rashmi Murthy

MBChB, FRACGP

Dr Murthy graduated in medicine from Auckland University in 1994 and completed her fellowship in General Practice in 2005. She has received extensive training in Skin Cancer Medicine and conducts the Skin Clinic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which includes some Cosmetic Procedures.

As a mother of two, Dr Murthy is kept rather busy, but in her spare time she enjoys socialising and fundraising for both the Indian and her local community.

Dr Anju Hanchate

MBBS, FRACGP

Dr Hanchate completed her Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1994 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Hanchate trained through GPSynergy and has over 20 years experience working in general practice. She enjoys all aspects of general practice, and is particularly passionate about women’s health, weight management, paediatrics, preventative care and working with her patients to achieve and maintain good health. She has an active role in teaching Medical Registrars under the GP Synergy training program.

When she is not at work, Anju can be found enjoying quality time with her family, bush hiking, traveling and walking her beloved dog Duke.

Dr Sumathi Sundar 

MBBS, DipRANZ, COG, FRACGP

Dr Sundar graduated in medicine in 1975 and has been a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners [RACGP] since 1994. She is a highly motivated and clinically competent General Practitioner with over 40 years experience caring for patients from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Dr Sundar has special interests in Women’s Health, Paediatric Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Ante-natal Care. Dr Sundar is committed to helping people maintain their health and quality of life.

Outside of work, she loves traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Dr Eng K Lee

MBBS, FRACGP

Dr Eng Lee graduated Medicine in 1986 from University of New South Wales and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He enjoys all aspects of General Practice and has also spent many years working as an Emergency Physician in Wollongong Hospital.

Dr Lisa Fernandez

MBBS, FRACGP

Dr Lisa Fernandez is a General Practitioner with a broad scope of practice and a strong interest in geriatric care and women’s health. 

Born and raised in Wollongong, she moved to Far North Queensland to study medicine and complete her internship before returning to Wollongong. She undertook her specialist training locally and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Additionally, she has completed the Emergency Medicine Certificate with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and the Sydney Children Health Program (formerly known as Diploma of Child Health)

Dr Fernandez provides antenatal shared care and enjoys caring for patients across all stages of life, including children and older adults. Her clinical interests include chronic disease management, mental health and menopause management. 

The daughter of the late Dr Cedric Fernandez, Dr Lisa is proud to continue to serve the Dapto community and manage many of his previous patients. She is committed to delivering holistic, patient-centred care.

 

Dr Phillip Park

MBBS

Dr Phillip Park is a GP Registrar at Dapto Medical and Family Practice. He holds a BMedSc (Hons) and MD and provides patient‑centred care with a strong interest in general family medicine and preventive health. He also speaks English and Korean, supporting a diverse patient community.

 

Dr Mark Rooney [Start date 04/08/2026]

MBBS

Dr Mark Rooney was born in Wollongong, and grew up in Figtree. He attended the University of Wollongong, and has a degree in Exercise Science as well as his medical degree.

He has worked in our local Illawarra hospitals for over 8 years, with extensive experience in Respiratory medicine (including lung cancer diagnosis), Aged care (including dementia diagnosis and management), and Infectious diseases (including developing models of care for the Wollongong COVID-19 ward during the pandemic).

Dr Rooney also has particular interests also in Men’s health, weight management, chronic disease management, preventative medicine, and palliative care options.
